Katniss didn't want to learns about the other tributes because she felt that if she started getting to know the pther tributes that she would get close to them and when it comes to time to kill them in the Hunger Games, she wouldn't be able to becuase she would have caught feelings for them. For example during the hunger games Katniss became close with a 12 year old girl from District 11 and they began to work together. If it came to the end and it was between them 2 Katniss would have probaly would have not killed her because she was attached to her. But thankfully for Katniss one of the "Carrer Tributes" killed her. Also she didn't want to get to know them because she didn't want to show them her strengths with a bow and arrow.
Katniss does not want to learn about the other tributes because she does not want to get close to any of the participants and make a friendship, as she will most likely have to kill them by the end of the competition. A good example, When Katniss formed an alliance with Rue, she began to form a very good friendship. But when one of the "career tributes" killed Rue, Katniss felt extreamly sad as she was close to Rue. She was so close because Rue saved her and watched her back several times.
Katniss feels that if she was to grow close to the other tributes that she wouldn't be able to kill them once inside the arena. Also if they were to learn about this she would become weak. The other tributes could also learn about her amazing skills with the bow and arrow. If they found this they could then try thier hardest to keep them away from Katniss and the end of the games could have been very different. Over all Katniss knows that it would be hard to kill someone she knows; she is already hoping that someone will kill Peeta instead of it having to be her to end his life.

Also because she does not want to get close to them and develop feelings like she already has for Peeta and even early in the book she relialiazes that she probably could not kill him if she had to. To help show that Katniss does develop feelings quickly in the book she gets a close friendship between her and a young girl Rue, but luckily for Katness, Rue is killed by one of the Career Tributes.
