Katniss goes for the medicine to save Peeta because she has fallen in love with him and began to catch feelings for Peeta. Katniss discovers Peeta as he had a trail of blood, leading to his crippled body underneath his self-painted camoflauge body. Katniss begins to really start hurting and it really starts to effect her soul. Katniss can tell Peeta is hurt because of the big gash on his leg from previously in the Hunger Games, and now the chances of it getting infected have become incresingly higher, therefore Katniss has to act quick and go get the medicine, in which she succeeds in getting.
When the anoncment goes off in the arena that there can be 2 winners this year aslong as their from the same district Katniss right away goes to look for Peeta. Katniss knows that Peeta is hurt becuase she has heard that he got a big cut on his leg. She doesn't know how bad it is but she knows he is hurt. After looking up and down the stream she eventually finds him. Peeta is camouflaged with mud. He is hiding under rocks because he is to ill to move. Katniss only finds him because he gets her attention. Peeta is very dirty and ill and is in no shape to move. Katniss starts off by cleaning Peeta and trying to see his skin. She finds killer bee bites and puts the leaf substance on his bits like rue taught her. She then feeds him and gives him to get highdrated. She then notices he has a high fever and gives him some pills. Once she gets to the cut she knows that its going to be nearly impossible to help him! She tries her best to clean it out but doesn't get far. All the pus comes out but it is still swollen. After camping out in a cave for days nothing gets better. An anouncment comes on saying that at the cornicopia there will be a gift for every district remaining with the 1 thing they need the most. Katniss decides to leave Peeta behind for a little and goes to get it. While she's getting it she comes close to death but hyer good deeds with Rue have helped her stay alive once again. Once she returns to the cave she opens the back pack and finds the medicine that they need to cure Peeta. She injects it into Peeta and within a night he is fully healed.
Once rule changed stating that there could be two winners of the games aslong as they are from the same district. Katniss soon realizes that Peeta and her are the only teo peopel from the same district. Rushing to were she first found Peeta, Katniss finds a trail of blood leading towards a river. Once Katniss finds Peeta camoflauged in the mud she drags him out to find that Cato, the male career tribute from District 2, had made a deep gash in Peeta's leg. For days Katniss and Peeta hide in a cave eating soup that Haymitch had sent from thier sponsers trying to heal Peeta, but soon Katniss realizes that Peeta is starting to get blood poisioning. Katniss also begins to truly fall in love with Peeta geeting closer to him, sharing stories etc. Then another annoucment stating that a feast would be happing soon saying that there would be an item that every tribute would need.
