Why does Peeta join with the Career Tributes in the beginning of the Games? What does he hope to gain? Why do they accept him when they start hunting as a group?
Peeta deciedes to join with the Career tributes ebcuase before going into the games the career tributes are known as the favourites to win and they have basically trained there whole life for their games, so they are more prepared then most. Peeta wants to join with with them becuase he thinks thaat he will die early in the games becuase he thinks he's one of the weaker links and so joining with them will give him a better chance to survive and maybe win. Peeta hopes to gain some strength from the career tributes and to get to know them so he can maybe sue them against them and also stay alive. The Carrer tributes accept Peeta to join with them becuase like all the fans they think they are inlove and call him "lover boy" and they think since he knows Katniss he can give them some information on her and maybe find her. They want to find Katniss becuase she is a major target and they fear that she might kill them, so they want to get rid of her.
Peeta has joined forces with the career tributes because he knows that with their traing they have the best chance of survival, the best weapons and the best camping positions. He also knows that his strength won't last long against Clove's knifes, Cato's spears or even Katniss's bow, so he pretends to be weak to infiltrate their tight-knit group. The biggest reason though is that Peeta truly does love Katniss and thinks that by staying with the carerrs he can lead them away from her if need be.
Peeta joins with the Career tributes because he wants to increase his chance at winning. By doing so, he wont have to worry about being killed until the end. He hopes to gain the advantage of not being killed until the competition picks up and hits it peak. The Career tributes accepted Peeta into their group because they know he has a stong link to Katniss, and that being said they could use Peeta to bring them to kill Katniss. They fear Katniss the most and want to get her out of the way early on so they wont have to worry about her later on in the Hunger Games.

He knows that the Career Tributes train for most if not all of their live for the Hunger Games so he thinks they will help him along the farthest. Another reason why he does join is because the Career Tributes know that Peeta is not only a fan favourite but is also close to Katniss and the career tributes want to use him foto find Katniss and kill her.
