Katniss teams up with Rue because when she is in danger of dying, stuck up in a tree, Rue comes along giving her the hint of knocking down the killer bees nest to make the career tributes run away, therefore saving her life. Rue also heals and hides Katniss to protect her from dying. With all that being said, the least Katniss could do was to team up with Rue and help her out, considering Rue is a small, young girl who really has no chance to win the Hunger Games.
From the beginning of the games Rue (12 years old) has constantly reminded Katniss of her sister Prim. Rue just like Prim is 12 and is to young in the mind of Katniss to be voted in but nobody from her District volunteered to replace her. When Katniss is running away from the Career tributes, she decides to climb a tree to as high as she can get to be safe. Little does she know, that at the top of where she is at there is killer bees nest. While lying still so the careers tributes can do nothing to here Rue is in the same tree. Rue points out that there is a killers bees nest on top of Katniss. She then tells Katniss to cut the nest of the tree and drop it on top of the tributes. Not only does it save Katniss from the bees but also from the Tributes. Not only does the bees sting the tributes but kill 2 of them. After this Rue and Katniss form an alliance because they need each other to win for a little while and Rue basically saved Katniss's life. Rue also helped Katniss lower the pain from the bee stings because she knows a trick with leaves and helps Katniss with curing her from the stings.
The second Katniss saw Rue she thoguht of her sister Prim. Both are twelve years-old and both look so small and helpless. when the career tributes chased Katniss up the tree, Rue was hiding in the tree next to her. Rue pointed out to Katniss that a few branches up there where Tracker Jackers, mutated wasps that when stung the person begins to see things. Katniss seeing no other way out cuts the branch and runs away, but not before being stung. Katniss now weak finds Rue and they pair up. Rue being from District 11 nows alot aboutt bugs and such makes a paste like substance to help Katniss's bites. Katniss feels in debt to Rue so they gang up and become close friends.
Katniss saw rue as a young innocent girl who got stuck being invloved in the Hunger Games, that reminded her of her younger sister making Katniss feel and special bond to Rue. Also rue helped Katniss survive by giving her help, helping her heal and also hiding her from the other participants so she could live. All of this said i think Katniss would have a hard time not to team up with Rue
